I’m fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK

I’m taking part in The Big Step Forward to transform the future for those affected by pancreatic cancer.

It is 10 years since my mum, Christine Baker, passed away at the age of 70 from Pancreatic Cancer.       

My mum, who had been a Nurse, did not drink or smoke and was otherwise healthy but woke, one day in April 2014 to find her skin jaundiced and as a result was admitted to Hospital. Within a few days she had been given the devastating news that she had inoperable pancreatic cancer. Within three months, on July 13th 2014, my mum had passed away. 

It therefore seems fitting that on the 10th Anniversary of her death, her four grandchildren, namely, my three sons, Daniel, Nathan & Josh & daughter Holly and myself should do this fundraising walk. We hope to walk approximately 14 miles from Chesterfield to Chatsworth House, one of her favourite places, in her memory.

It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope. It seems that little advancement has been made in the fight against this particular cancer which can, without any long term symptoms, overnight, so devastatingly affect a families lives.

The funds I raise will enable Pancreatic Cancer UK’s nurses to continue to be there for those affected by pancreatic cancer now and fund research to detect early, treat better and transform care.
