I’m fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK.
I was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer at the end of January this year and was lucky enough to start chemo treatment at the end of February. Many, but not all, of my FB friends know about this, but at the risk of boring those who do I will give a brief summary of my journey so far. I count myself as extremely fortunate to be under an excellent team at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead and also taking part in a clinical trial which gives me an extra level of support. I am also able to have my chemo sessions at a local hospital once a fortnight.
The treatment at the beginning left me feeling very ill but the team quickly reduced the chemo by 80% and gave me medication to help with nausea and stomach acid. Since then I have coped really well except for the tiredness. Unfortunately this means that I can no longer go for longer walks which was one of my main hobbies but I do make sure that I have an activity to focus on every morning before I get too tired. The statistics for pancreatic cancer are horrific so I would like to help others who will benefit from life-saving research and the most appropriate way for me is by sponsoring a walk.
I may not be able to go very far, but I will do my best!
