I’m fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK
I’m taking part in The Big Step Forward to transform the future for those affected by pancreatic cancer.
It’s unacceptable that more than half of people diagnosed with the deadliest common cancer die within three months. That’s why they need and deserve more. More research, more funding, more breakthroughs. More than hope.
The funds I raise will enable Pancreatic Cancer UK’s nurses to continue to be there for those affected by pancreatic cancer now and fund research to detect early, treat better and transform care.
Your kind donation will have the power to make that possible.
Together, we can step up and stamp out this brutal cancer.
Thank you.

My Updates

I did it!!!
I made it!!! Not sure how but made it back to the caravan for a nice shower and a sit down!! Google maps decided to trial us on the way there but we managed to get back on track and to save paths than the main roads!!! (Thanks for trying to kill us Google!!) Walking on total for 4 hours and 6 minutes.
Sherringham Park!!!
Made it to Sherringham Park walked through and now on back to kelling heath. My parents walked through here often in the summer with friends to their fave place for roasts the Dale's. Sometimes pushing our beloved dog Smudge in his cart too.
Half way point Sherringham!!
We have made it to Sherringham!! Halfway point in my big steps walk. Having a cake and a coke at Welks a beautiful cafe on the seafront. Scones and coffee were a favourite of my dad's when visiting here.
We are off!!!
Started the walk this morning and have already made it to Weybourne. Stopped for a bacon bap for breakfast in a little cafe my parents often used to visit. Next stop is Sherringham!!!
Holiday walking
Only 13 days until the big steps walk!!! What have I been doing to prepare? Well I have just come back from a holiday away to Madiera. Another beloved place to my dad and our family. This beautiful island is known for its steep hills and walking to get to places. It is very easy to walk over 10,000 steps a day here. My biggest walks on this holiday were a day walking from the hotel to the cable carts and then the rest of the day walking around Palace gardens and back again. And a mini bus tour around the west side of the island, which involved lots of stops and walking around landmarks and places.
Practice makes perfect
A few weeks ago on a Wednesday me and my mum scouted out the first part of my Big Steps Walk. In-between rain showers we walked down to Weybourne and back again. Stopping at the Ship Inn pub a favourite of my dad's for their roasts. This is also a route he used to do a lot when at the caravan often pushing our beloved dog Smudge in his cart. As a family we used to laugh at the old boys being together.
Hello!!
Hello!!!I am Anna, I am 29, I will be joining the big steps walk on the 13th July this year.
On the 13th July I will be walking from my parents caravan in Kelling Heath down to Weybourne continuing to Sherringham and back round to Kelling Health via Sherringham Park.
Around 9.9 miles in total and about 4 hours in time (though I am not the quickest of walkers!).
BUT this biggest question is why? Why I am doing this, that's simple love. Love I have for my dad and the challenge of this walk will not be as hard as the journey he had battling pancreatic cancer.
In 2022 by parents where packed up and ready to go to their caravan for the weekend. A quick lunch at the pub before going back for the dog changed it all.
Sitting across from my dad in the pub my mum noticed that my dad's eyes were very yellow in colouring, and realised he had jaundice.
My dad was admitted to hospital for 10 days. Lots of scans and tests later he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in his bile duck and his pancreas. Being the end of covid measures in hospitals he went through all this on his own, which only made the news harder to hear.
He went through 12 rounds of the highest chemotherapy available on alternative week treatment.
In January 2023 as a family we got the news his cancer was stable.
However, in March/April time my dad had lost a dramatic amount of weight in a very short period and was struggling to eat and had a swelling on his stomach.
During this time his physical ability disappeared and he became very weak. It was revealed that he had ascites on his stomach and this was causing the main issues. Something quite common to cancer patients and a simple drain on his stomach would sort things out. But it was a double bank holiday so he had to wait to receive the drain due to the low amount of doctors actually on at the hospital.
Once he had received the drain he was approved to come home, though he was bedbound at this time. And unfortunately his health didn't improve, he was home for a week before we had to call an ambulance. This was due to trouble breathing and the ascites had returned and pressing on his lungs.
He was then admitted back into hospital and his stomach drained again. Unfortunately during the early hours of the morning he took a turn for the worse and needed a thoracic drain as his lungs had filled with fluid due to the cancer spreading.
It was the next day we received a phone call, that my dad wasn't improving and was slowly declining.
We lost him on Thursday 25th May 2023. When his battle was finally over.
This was the story of my dad's cancer battle, and due to this and raising more awareness of this cancer and getting funding to have an earlier diagnosis and treatment is my main drive to do this walk, with the money being raised for pancreatic cancer UK.
