Ron's Rockets

The End

Although we have all completed our 75 mile challenge ahead of schedule, we had our grand finale today and walked from Mum's house to Dad's Golf club - a distance of  5 miles .
The weather hasn't been on our side these last few days but we carried on regardless, and had a toast to Dad when we got there.
The girls have lost their beloved Grandad, Mum has lost the love of her life, and I miss my Dad every day.
We all hope that our efforts will help to make a difference to somebody, somewhere in the future.
Emma and Kate - you have both been wonderful. You have walked with pride-, and with blisters  - for your Grandad.  You truly are incredible young ladies.
We all wish that we had done this walk while Dad was still with us, bur maybe somehow, he was.
Thank you to everyone who has donated - we are so grateful and we love you all.
Extra special thanks to Mum, Rob , Steven and Luke for your love and support.
Dad, we love you and we miss you, every single day.
We did it for you.   xxx

Day Thirteen

We did it !!!
We have all  reached our 75 mile goal.
It's a relief to have finished  but we have had such a wonderful time and we will all have very special memories of these last couple of weeks.
We have never done anything like this before, individually or as a team.  It has been hard at times , trying to walk a decent distance after work but we did it for Dad, and we did it for Grandad.

DayTwelve

Emma has completed her 75 mile walk today. Incredible effort Em.
Quieter day for me , another mile and a half to go.
I was on local radio this morning, BBC radio Derby,  chatting about our walk. It was a bit nerve racking but great to raise more awareness for the cause.

Day Eleven

Day eleven and Kate has reached her 75 mile target, this afternoon, four days ahead of schedule.
Em and I are not far behind and should reach our 75 miles tomorrow.

Well done girls, you've both been amazing. What an achievement! I'm so vey proud of you both for taking on this challenge.  It's not been easy, we are all worn out but every step was for Dad/Grandad,and we would all do it again in a heartbeat.

Day Ten

All back at work today, so back to walking before and after work.
But a productive day and we have all achieved 65+ miles so far which is approximately from Bradford to Belper.
The weather has turned now.  It's been a grey, drizzly afternoon and more rain forecast this week so we will be trying to dodge the showers.

Day Nine

A steadier day today,  we did a few miles around Ockbrook with Mum this morning.
Just passed the 60 mile mark now and stlll ahead of schedule.

Day Eight

Rain & thunderstorms forecast later today, so we started out at 06:00 so we could clock up ten miles before the rain.
Had a lovely walk from Chester Green to Duffield and back. We went to Angelo's for Dads birthday last September  so very precious memories there.
Massive thanks to Laura and Alex in Sanchini's coffee shop in Duffield  for being so welcoming and for making a very generous donation this morning. We will definitely be back soon with Mum ..... coffee was amazing.
And a huge thank you to  friends, family  & colleagues for your support. Your generosity has been overwhelming, and will always be remembered.

Day Seven

Another 5 miles each clocked up on Day Seven.
It's been a scorcher today so it was great to finish off the day  with friends in The Harrington  Arms beer garden.

Over two thirds of the way under our belt now but a busy weekend ahead.

Day Six

We have had a lovely walk around Elvaston Castle tonight and have all passed the half way mark now, and we are  still a day ahead of schedule.
We have all walked the equivalent distance  of Bradford to Dronfield.
Doggy bandanas have just arrived so Arnie & Monty are looking very smart  today.

Day Five

Emma and Kate are storming ahead with 38 miles achieved already. I'm slightly behind at 35 miles so I need to up my game a bit.... but we are  all ahead of schedule and determined to smash our 75 mile target.
Emma has been to Carsington today and walked over 8 miles despite her blisters....
Kate has been up and out early walking around town and Darley Park after work.  Grandad would be so very proud of them both.

I've walked to work and back and then a lap around Ockbrook with Mum this evening.  A route that Mum and  Dad often walked together.

Day Four

30/75 miles now completed so we are making excellent progress.
Part of tonight's walk was the same route as our last walk with Dad, so very bittersweet memories.
Wish he was here to walk with us now.

Day Three

Day Three completed!.
We have all walked in excess of 25 miles so far which is approximately the distance from Bradford to Barnsley as the crow flies, so we are making really good progress. And we managed to avoid the rain showers today.
Feeling a little achy now and ready for a good nights sleep.
We have finally tired the dogs out.
Until tomorrow...

Day Two

Another good day today.
Arnie and Monty have been helping out again.  …
Emma and Kate both have blisters and sore feet but are carrying on regardless.  Grandad would be so proud of them both.
More of the same tomorrow ….

Day One

So it's Day One of our Walk for Dad.
We've made a good start today ......until Arnie rolled in fox poo and Monty ran off chasing  birds.  But  he came back so all is good.
Looking forward to Day Two...

We are fundraising for Pancreatic Cancer UK

We are taking part in The Big Step Forward in memory of our Dad (and Grandad)  Ron, who passed away in February 2023.

Jill, Emma & Kate and spaniels Arnie & Monty,  will be walking 75 miles which is the distance from Dad's birthplace in Bradford to his home in Borrowash.

Dad was incredibly brave throughout his illness and we are all so very proud of him.

Along the way we will be walking to places that hold very special memories of Dad.

Pancreatic cancer is tough to diagnose, tough to research and tough to treat.

Your support will help us to:

1. Fund research into new ways of diagnosing and treating Pancreatic cancer

2. Enable specialist nurses to provide a support line for those affected.

3. Campaign for change in order to improve and speed up diagnosis and develop faster and better treatment.

Please donate and help us fight this devastating disease.
