*Covid-19 update*

The outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a worrying time for all of us – but particularly for people with pancreatic cancer and their loved ones. Their wellbeing and that of our supporters, staff and the pancreatic cancer community is of paramount importance to us and, regretfully, this has meant postponing some of our upcoming events. These were difficult decisions but ones we felt we had to make for everyone’s safety, and most importantly to reduce the risk of patients and their family and friends from coming into contact with the virus.

Many of you have already organised your own walks with smaller groups of family and friends. It would not be right for us to tell you to take the same decision and circumstances will change, but we ask that you consider the Government’s official advice when choosing when to complete your walk.

What happens if I have to cancel or postpone my own walk?

If you need to cancel your walk please just let us know by calling 020 3535 7090 or sending an email to thebigstepforward@pancreaticcancer.org.uk

It will also be your responsibility to let people who are due to attend the walk, know that it is cancelled or postponed.

Can I cancel my own walk and join The Big Step Forward in Beckenham Place Park instead?

Yes you can. You will need to let us know that you are cancelling your own walk first. Then as long as the event isn't full already you can register (and pay the current registration fee) for the event in Beckenham Place Park on 5th September and you'll get a new Welcome pack sent out to you.

Fundraising

How much sponsorship money do I need to raise?

We are asking that everyone who signs up to create their own Big Step Forward aims to pledge to raise a minimum of £100 to help fund world-class research to speed up diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and improve treatments.

It is up to you how you do this. You can raise it entirely through sponsorship or you could charge people a fee to take part in your walk.

How can I reach the fundraising target?

We recommend creating an online fundraising page and sharing it with friends and family. You will find more fundraising hints and tips to help you reach your fundraising target within your welcome booklet once you have signed-up and received your welcome pack in the post.

How do I set up an online fundraising page?

When you complete your online registration form, your Big Step Forward Funraisin page will be automatically created. You can then add photos, your story, set your target and get sharing your page!

If you would prefer to use a different platform, you can also find The Big Step Forward - Create your own walk event set-up on JustGiving and Virgin Money Giving.

Can I raise sponsorship money offline?

Yes! In your Welcome pack, you’ll receive a paper sponsorship form to collect any offline sponsorships, along with instructions for how to pay in these donations. You'll also recieve a cardboard collection box which will help you to collect in even more money.

When does my fundraising need to reach you by?

Money from an online fundraising page will come directly to us, so you won’t have to worry about this. You can pay in your offline donations here or refer to the sponsorship form for alternative paying-in methods.

As there is no set date for the Create your own walk part of The Big Step Forward, there is no set date you must send your money to us. However, the sooner the better so we just ask that you send your offline sponsorship money to us as soon as possible after you've collected it all.

How can I get extra fundraising materials?

You can download extra posters and sponsorship forms by visiting our Fundraising Materials page. You can buy additional Big Step Forward t-shirts by visiting our online shop. Extra t-shirts are £5 each.

Groups

Can we sign up in a group?

We encourage you to take part with friends and family, however you don't all need to sign up.

One lead person can sign up and recieve the welcome pack. However there will only be one t-shirt provided in the pack. If you want more t-shirts for other walkers in your group, you can order more here.

Is everyone in the group required to raise £100?

No, we only ask that the lead person who has signed up and received the welcome pack, aims to try and raise £100 to help us support more world-class research to speed up diagnosis and improve treatments.

However, if you want to ask your fellow walkers to help you the raise the money, you can of course do that.

Can we fundraise as a group?

Yes. When you sign up as a group, you can create a team fundraising page.

How can I order additional t-shirts for other people joining my walk?

You can purchase additional Big Step Forward branded t-shirts from our online shop. T-shirts are priced at £5 each.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) related FAQs

Can I still carry on with my own Big Step Forward walk if I want to?

Can I change the date of my own Big Step Forward walk?

Yes, you can organise your Big Step Forward for when it suits you, and we ask that you consider the Government’s official advice when choosing when to complete your walk.

I am now available for the date of the flagship walk in Beckenham Place Park – can I cancel my own walk and take part in this event instead?

Yes, you can of course cancel your own Big Step Forward at any time.

If you would like to transfer to The Big Step Forward flagship walk, there is a registration fee which applies to all flagship walkers. Please email thebigstepforward@pancreaticcancer.org.uk to let us know you would like to cancel your own walk and register for flagship event instead.

If I change the date of my walk, will my online fundraising page stay open until after the new date?

Yes – your online fundraising page will stay open indefinitely.

Is my fundraising target still £100?

Yes, we are still asking everyone who has created their own Big Step Forward walk to pledge to try and raise £100 in sponsorship money. If you can go above and beyond raising £100, that would be incredible. Research breakthroughs give us hope and will save lives. The funds you raise will have the power to make that possible.

I have already raised sponsorship but have now postponed my walk

We are so grateful for your support and it really will help to transform the future for everyone affected by pancreatic cancer.
We would suggest letting your sponsors know that you will be postponing your fundraising so that they are aware and you can continue to fundraise.

If you have collected offline donations such as cash/cheques, please email supportercare@pancreaticcancer.org.uk and the team will send you our bank details and advise on the best way to get cheques safely to us.
